Education is closely related to career and employment these days. Young graduates could not target executive positions without their education background, yet they may not be able to get their first job or boost their career a few years into their professional life without some prior training.
Many career websites are well aware of such a market trend which is why some extend their services to online education with specific tools, platforms and partnerships. Recent examples can be mentioned such as LinkedIn and their acquisition of Lynda.com, or even job sites that have education sections and course search engines. Some job boards such as SEEK even have their own platform dedicated to learning. Not only does education provide recruiters with better candidates, but also employers with better employees – see our article about CV-Library’s latest survey on how training can lead to better job satisfaction, staff loyalty and retention.
U.S. job board Beyond and online learning marketplace Udemy is one of the most recent partnerships. “The dynamics of today’s rapidly changing job market increasingly require people to master discrete skills on an ongoing basis,” says Rich Qiu, Vice President of Business Development at Udemy. “We are delighted to work with Beyond to provide jobseekers with the flexible, skill-based online learning platform they need to thrive in the modern workforce.”
The news came after a national survey of 4,000 job seekers and HR professionals conducted by Beyond that found 75% of HR respondents are having trouble filling open positions because too many candidates are unqualified. The survey also found that 69% of HR professionals evaluate an applicant’s resume for technical skills first. With the addition of online courses, Beyond intends to help job seekers expand skill sets.
“Careers are the foundation of your success in life and you need the proper training and education to fuel that success,” explains Rich Milgram, Founder and CEO of Beyond. “By analyzing a person’s profile and then overlaying available job openings, we can quickly identify skills gaps to be filled. We are excited to be able to partner with Udemy to offer our 45 million members an affordable and efficient way to strengthen and expand their skill sets and continue to build successful careers.”
Udemy’s instructors have grown to include more than 16,000 experts in business, technology and the arts. Through its Udemy For Business offering, Udemy has already partnered with more than 200 companies to provide cutting-edge corporate training for their employees.
Udemy offers a diverse range of over 30,000 on-demand courses available in more than 80 languages. Such content will give Beyond’s members a distinct advantage in the employment market.
