On July 21, 2015, CareerBuilder announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Dutch recruitment software company Textkernel.
Founded in 1995, CareerBuilder is now one of the most recognizable brands in online recruitment: it is the 5th most visited job site in the United States and the 13th most visited job site in the world (SimilarWeb). With a presence in over 60 markets worldwide, CareerBuilder has more than 24 million monthly unique visitors.
Lauched in 2001, Textkernel specializes in information extraction, document understanding, web mining, semantic searching and matching in the Human Resources sector. While employers and job seekers may use different words and phrases to describe similar skills and experiences, the semantic search studies the intent and contextual meaning behind words which eventually provides better search results and matching. Textkernel’s advanced technology analyzes language patterns to identify what the user really means and suggest the most relevant profiles in a client’s CV database based on a job description. Textkernel also offers highly accurate multi-lingual CV parsing which can convert any CV or social media profile into a complete and searchable database record in any system.
As CEO of CareerBuilder Matt Ferguson pointed out, “Textkernel is closing the communications divide between recruiters and candidates by helping them speak the same language on the back end. We’re excited to leverage their technology to enhance our semantic search and data analytics globally, and provide a greater ROI for our clients’ most valuable and under-used asset: their internal candidate database.”
On the other side, founder and CEO of Textkernel Jakub Zavrel added, “We understand unstructured text data better than anyone else, and use this knowledge to help our clients and software partners increase productivity with a better search and matching experience. With an industry leader like CareerBuilder, we can quickly scale up our business and bring that knowledge to companies around the world, while remaining an independent brand and company within the group.”
Over a month ago, on June 25, 2015, CareerBuilder launched Applicant Tracking, an HR software solution that delivers job distribution, sourcing, workflow, CRM, data and analytics in one pre-hire platform as they were simultaneously celebrating the company’s 25th anniversary.
While the acquisition of the Netherlands-based company further supports CareerBuilder’s evolution into a HR software as a service provider, it also enables Textkernel to accelerate its global growth.
