Jobboard Finder’s opinion
Summary: Student.be is a Belgium student job board, which also offers students housing information. The site is available in English, French and Dutch, and it is developed by students (with Zakaria Aharrar listed as a person to contact). On social media, the site has 17 122 followers on Facebook, 191 on Twitter and 849 on Linkedin. The website offers all kinds of information for students, from internships and jobs to apartments to rent. It has half as many views as it did in July, at about 297 550 a month, most of which are from Belgium.
Design: The design is modern and straight forward, as well as attractive. At the top of the page, you can choose to look through starter jobs, internships, student jobs, student rooms and the blog. You can also choose your city to look through all the offers in your area. The rest of homepage is broken down into four different sections (for all four categories at the top of the page). Once you’re in the job listing, you can still switch easily between the different offers. The filters for starter jobs are keywords, the city, the sector, the contract type, the department and the study level. Internships also include a salary filter. Student jobs only offer a schedule filter. Clearly, the underlining message is that students and interns have different priorities. If you open a job offer, the useful information appears either at the top of the job offer or on the right-hand side. This can include the start date, the required language skills, the hours and the sector. All of the job offers include a job description, a company description and a benefits section.
The job board objective: Student.be aims to make it easy for landlords and recruiters to target students, and for students to start their career thanks to companies with interesting first job opportunities.
Recruiter observations: For internships and student jobs, you can advertise for free (apparently). Recruiters, jobseekers and property owners create the same type of account. Additional information must be filled in afterwards, including the size of the company, the georgraphical presence, the international mobility potential and you can add a video. When you post an advert, you can have candidates redirected to your company page and you can choose to make motivational letters optional. Recruiters must fill out a questionnaire about the work values and team role before being able to post their job offer and see the prices.
Jobseeker observations: When applying to a job offer, you must include your university or school (even if it is not in the list), your field of study (even if it isn’t in the list), your address and your level of studies. A short message is provided by the site for you when a cover letter is required.
The job offers: There are 252 starter jobs, 4 373 internships and 6 022 student jobs. There are a number of telecommunication jobs, consulting jobs and construction jobs.
Reactivity: You can find a phone number in the “For employers” section.
Special features: The blog (in English; Dutch and French); the app (Stujobs); the housing offers; the job alerts; the video options for the company page; the employer questionnaire (with more than 21 questions); additional visibility on other job sites.
Verdict: It’s a shame that the industries should be so limited and that there is little to no information about who runs the site. That said, the website had made finding housing and job opportunities easy for students. The job board is easy to use and the questionnaire is a smart idea.
