Jobboard Finder’s opinion
Summary: Founded by Fatih Uysal in 1999, Kariyer is the leading generalist job board in Turkey, attracting as many as 16.57 million views a month. If you think that’s impressive, you should see their following on social media: 39 000 followers on Twitter, 48 400 on Instagram, 9 071 YouTube and 695 705 on Facebook. You can also get in touch with the team through Whatsapp. Kariyer continues to adapt to the users, be they recruiters or jobseekers, as the founder explained at the last OnRec. Feedback is welcome, transparency is promoted (even the team’s CVs are available).
Design: The homepage emphasizes the different job categories users can visit. The search engine (city and keywords) appears at the top of the page, followed by features job offers and popular categories. When you run your curser over some of the links down the bottom of the page, other options pop up over the screen. This also occurs when you run your curser over the filters (location, publication date, the sector, the category, the position, the career level, the department, the type of contract, the education level the experience, handicap friendly, type of employer, languages). There are no logos in the job listing, but there are publication dates. Furthermore, the job offers, once opened, are customized to reflect the company but they also have a relatively standardized layout. At the bottom of each job offer, there is an expiry date, the number of applications sent, the number of views and the number of days the job offer has been online. Useful information appears on the right-hand side.
The job board objective: Karyier (which means “career”) adapts to its users and to the changing times to remain on top of the Turkish employment market.
Recruiter observations: There are different prices for new users compared to older ones. To create an account without ordering a job advert, you have to contact the team. Otherwise, you can select one of the offers from the website. A VAT number is required and the company location must be in Turkey.
Jobseeker observations: You can create an account with Facebook or an e-mail address. You must be signed in to look at the job offers (otherwise, a pop-up appears asking you to sign up).To apply to job offers, you must fill in your age, location, experience and education level on your online CV. If your CV is not updated, no job offers will appear in the listing.
The job offers: The job board indicates that there are 69 692 job offers, but only 9 773 appear when you access the listing through the search engine. The most popular departments are production and IT; the most popular sectors are IT, construction, production and tourism.
Reactivity: The team answers quickly (in Turkish) but they prefer to speak over the phone.
Special features: The key figures; the hundreds of YouTube videos; links to other websites in the footer; the terms and condition pop-up (to ensure users read it); the blog (which includes subsections and a legal section); the app; the job alerts; the number of views and applications for each job offer; information about the company; photos and CVs of the team; the partner websites (for students and recruiters).
Verdict: Karyier has it all: smart technology, great filters, good transparency, an interesting blog, customized job offers that don’t confuse users, a strong presence on social media, etc. If you’re recruiting in Turkey, I don’t see how – nor why – you could not go through Karyier.
