Jobboard Finder’s opinion
Summary: Created in 2010, JobGurus is a generalist job board in Nigera. The current CEO is Chinedu Ibekwe and the site has followers on Facebook (54 018), on Twitter (17 000; but there is just a stream of job offers) and Linked (644). According to Similarweb, JobGurus is popular in Nigera, attracting as many as 423 120 visits a month.
Design: The layout has changed recently. Just under the search engine (keywords, specialisation, work level), the homepage is full of job offers (and adverts unfortunately). If you don’t know what you want, you can start by choosing a sector or location from a list (which includes the number of jobs in each category). The site also features a few companies, with current job offers. The filters (location, specialisation, industry, experience, salary range, job type, work level, date posted) all include the number of offers for the subcategories. When you open a job offer, the description is brief, useful information is on the left-hand side and you have similar offers at the bottom.
It is annoying that adds and pop-ups clutter the screen; some of which are verging on unsuitable (for MST tests).
The job board objective: JobGurus hopes to improve the employment numbers in Nigeria, one job at a time.
Recruiter observations: Recruiters can post an advert or access the CV database. To create an account, recruiters must include an address and a short description.
Jobseeker observations: It’s easy to create an account an apply to offers.
The job offers: There are over 700 000 job offers (according to the website). Most of them are in Sales/Business Development, Accounting/Audit/Finance and Administration/Office/Operations.
Reactivity: The team answers very quickly.
Special features: eBooks; aptitude tests (which you can use to access 10 questions for free; otherwise, you must subscribe for a cost); the blog (nothing new since the beginning of the year – which is an interesting list of statistics on the different candidates from across the country having applied to offers within the previous year); CV services (through Kigenni, at a cost); job alerts; the bank details.
Verdict: If JobGurus has popups all around the screen, then they probably need them to finance the site. It is slightly enough though, because it ruins the design. Sometimes it’s difficult to distinguish the offers from the popups. That said, the filters are good, the team is reactive and the visibility is rather high.
