Jobboard Finder’s opinion
Summary: Ikman, founded in 2012, is a part of Saltside, which is located in Bangalore in India and photos of some of the team members are available on their site. The current managing director of the classifieds job board is Alexander Löwbäck. In Sir Lanka, it is the 5th most visited website and a clear winner when it comes to job posting (on a classifieds website anyway). It attracts 2.66 million visits a month (but that isn’t just for the job offers). On social media, there are 5 969 followers on Twitter (nothing new since June), 879 971 on Facebook, 1368 on Linkedin and 3 634 on Youtube, for only a handful of videos. Social media (especially Facebook) was under fire and even blocked less than a year ago. The website is available in Sinhalese, English and Tamil. That said, the offers are not translated (if the employer wrote in Sinhalese, it will appear in Sinhalese despite the English option).
Design: The website design is slightly outdated, but that hasn’t stopped it from being efficient. You can go directly to a specific district thanks to the interactive map, or use the categories to find what you need. As a classifieds website, jobs aren’t the only thing you’ll find on Ikman. For jobs, there are three relevant categories: jobs in Sir Lanka, services and work overseas. In jobs in Sir Lanka, you’ll find a list of job offers and filters: the type of poster (all or only members), the category (work overseas, jobs in Sir Lanka), the location, the industry or the job type. These same filters appear for the work overseas. In services, people are offering their services (so that means that you can find candidates for odd jobs and discover services you didn’t know existed). You can also click on “all ads” at the top of the page but you’ll see job offers as well as apartments or items for sale. In business & industry, you can find equipment. When you open a job offer, useful information is above the description: location, employer, job type, industry, education, minimum qualifications, total vacancies, maximum age, application deadline, skills and salary (which most companies provide). Similar adverts appear under the open offer.
The job board objective: Ikman (which means “fast”) aims to create fast connections between jobseekers and employers.
Recruiter observations: Employers can only post job offers in work overseas or jobs in Sir Lanka and a deadline is compulsory. It’s easy to create an offer but unfortunately, the service was unavailable when we tested the site. For that reason, we didn’t get to the check-out. Surprisingly, there is a CV database.
Jobseeker observations: When you click on “apply”, a phone number, an e-mail address or a website appears. This means that you don’t need an account to apply to jobs.
The job offers: In total, there are 3 612 job offers in Sir Lanka. Sadly, “other” has the most job offers (which means jobseekers will have to do their own sorting). Hotel, travel & leisure, manufacturing and IT also have many job offers. There are 411 overseas (most of which are in tourism or general labour).
Reactivity: A phone number is available in “membership”. The team answers really quickly.
Special features: The interactive map; the blog (no new articles since November 2018); the Youtube videos; the app; the partnership with Booking; the icons; the banner advertising; the stay safe information; “promote this add” options.
Verdict: Ikman is very easy to use and has great UX writing for those posting adverts. We recommend it for anyone in Sir Lanka.
