Jobboard Finder’s opinion
Summary: GovernmentCareer belongs to CareerSpot, which also manages a number of other sites. As the name suggests, the job offers on this job board are for government related jobs. The company is 100% Australian-owned and Nila Wajntraub has remained the managing director for the past 9 years. It has a small following on social media: the Twitter page is the CareerSpot page (with 635 followers), there are 2 751 followers on Facebook and a further 558 on LinkedIn. The site attracts 5 190 visits a month on average.
Design: when you first see the homepage, it looks as though there is no search engine. There is in fact a small one for keywords anywhere on the site, next to the social media links. The rest of the homepage displays premium jobs, local news, local jobs, conferences/events and courses. There is also a Twitter feed. Once in the job listing, the filters (keywords, category, location, work type) appear on the left-hand side. In the listing, there are closing dates for the job offers. The open job offers look like a sheet of paper presenting the job. The useful information appears on the right-hand side.
The job board objective: GovernmentCareer targets those in the governmental sector and only offer jobs relevant to them.
Recruiter observations: It’s easy to create an account but a phone number is required. A logo is compulsory for a job offer. The offer is then displayed on a number of sites and you must pick the category for each one. The prices are online.
Jobseeker observations: Jobseekers are redirected to another page when they click on “apply now”.
The job offers: There are currently 43 job offers on the site. Most of the jobs are in urban planning/design, communication/marketing, and town planning/heritage.
Reactivity: The team answers quickly.
Special features: The news; the events; the courses; the “other stuff”; the Twitter feed.
Verdict: If you’re in the government sector, then you should definitely check out what GovernmentCareer has to offer. Even if this isn’t your field, CareerSpot also owns a number of other job boards, which could have more relevant positions.
