Jobboard Finder’s opinion
Summary: Devnet Jobs is a specialist job board for those looking to do humanitarian work. Despite no https:// and a particularly unattractive design, the site attracts about 103 640 visits per month. According to SimilarWeb, 10% of the traffic coming from the United States, 10% from the Sudan and 10% from the Central African Republic. The other visits come from elsewhere in the world in smaller percentages, so Devnet Jobs is definitely international. According to the site, there are over 750 000 jobseekers and 22 000 recruiters. Even if you can share information from the site on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, we only found an account on Twitter (with 45 700 followers) and Facebook (47 980 followers). In the past, a well-known politician from Greece, Argyrios Ntinopoulos, has even applied for work through the site!
Design: The page design is outdated, much like you might still find for some government or not-for-profit websites. There is a small search engine (keywords) at the top of the page, for which you need a keyword. However, you can access the jobs by clicking on “search jobs”. The homepage is made up of three columns: recruitment news, standard jobs (no logos) and highlighted jobs just under premium jobs. Job offers have an “apply by date” but no publication dates or logos in the listing for most of them. Depending on your account, you can’t use the filters (country, location, organisation, sector) or apply to certain offers. The “members only” ones have a lock.
The job board objective: Devnet offers international development jobs and consulting opportunities. To ensure the offers reach the most relevant candidates, membership is a big part of the site.
Recruiter observations: Not-for-profit companies can post for free. It’s easy to post the offer through the website but you’ll have to pay to have it promoted.
Jobseeker observations: For most job offers, jobseekers need a membership on the site (at a cost). There are three different types of membership.
The job offers: There are currently 385 jobs on the site. This is similar to last year. Administration, Monitoring and Communications have the most job offers.
Reactivity: The team takes a couple of days to answer.
Special features: The endorsements; the events and announcement page (where you can post events); job alerts; the requests for proposals and tenders.
Verdict: Don’t judge a book by its cover. The expression has never applied more than it does in this instance. Not only is Devnet Jobs a popular site, but it has many interesting job opportunities from around the world. It’s a shame so much is off limits for non-members though.
