Jobboard Finder’s opinion
Summary: Careers24 is the job board for 24.com, a leading African network of digital publishing brands and online services. It might be confusing to see so many different brands, which all seem to own the site in some way. At the bottom of the page, there’s the iab south africa logo, an organisation which promotes digital growth. In the About us section, it states that Careers is a part of Media24 and a member of the Naspers group. Clearly, different big groups have a stake in the site. This generalist job board is one of the most popular, attracting 1.34 million visitors a month and the social media is also quite impressive: 85 900 followers on Twitter, 268 730 on Facebook, 81 253 on LinkedIn and 7 071 on Instagram.
Design: The focus of the main page is clearly on the search engine (keywords and location). A list of regions, cities and sectors are also available just underneath (including the number of jobs for each one). The featured companies really are hiring. In the job listing, the filters (location, salary, sectors, date, contract type, EE/AA status). Job offers don’t necessarily have a logo, but they all have expiry dates and a publication date. Offers can be sorted by relevance and date. Under the search results, local jobs are displayed (which aren’t necessarily from the job board). Useful information appears at the top of each open job offer. For the offers with logos in the listing, you can click on them to access the company page. The company pages are both customised (thanks to photos and a logo) and standard. There is a description of the company, followed by a number of icons for the following: the foundation date, the industry, the type of company, the reach and the size.
The job board objective: Careers24 focuses on the South African market in the hopes of connecting recruiters with jobseekers.
Recruiter observations: To post a job offer on the site, a company registration number is required. There is a CV database.
Jobseeker observations: It’s easy to create an account. The following information is required for a profile: whether you are employed, unemployed or looking for your 1st job; a phone number; your nationality; whether you have a work permit; your gender; your ethnicity; whether you have a disability and whether you are willing to relocate.
The job offers: There are 11 109 job offers on the site. The top sectors are Finance, Sales and IT.
Reactivity: --
Special features: The Men In Black International Competition; the courses; the career advice (no publication dates on the articles but there are many sub sections); the company reviews; buildable job widgets; testimonials; the app.
Verdict: The design is appealing and the site is easy to use. With clear information about different packages and CV purchases, you don’t even need to go through the team to start recruiting.
