Jobboard Finder’s opinion
Summary: Since 1985, BioSpace has been providing insights, opportunities and tools to connect scientific institutions with the right professionals. A specialist job board in the field of science, the website offers information on job offers, the current affairs in the industry and career resources. That’s probably why there are 18 300 followers on Twitter, 61 869 on Facebook and a group on LinkedIn with 15 626 members. In addition to the social media followers, approximately 608 820 views (75% of which comes from the US) are recorded per month. The focus is the job search though and the design is straight forward (as it is for most Madgex job boards).
Design: Despite all of the articles, the homepage features the search engine (keywords, location, radius) above the latest articles. The HotBeds map (for the job search) is also a feature of the homepage and some of the top employers (who are all hiring). Once in the job listing, you can choose between searching and browsing, which affects the filters (location, industry, discipline, required education, position type). When browsing, you can see the number of job offers in each subcategory. Job offers display useful information on the left-hand side and a long description. As for the company pages, you will find a description, images and video, articles referring to the employer as well as other useful information (the website, the address, a link to current job offers, a map, etc.)
The job board objective: BioSpace hopes to bring bright new minds to the institutes, which need them.
Recruiter observations: It’s easy for recruiters to create an account and order job offers online (no VAT required). If you want a customised package, you can contact the team.
Jobseeker observations: It’s easy to create an account. You need one to apply to job offers, even if you are redirected afterwards.
The job offers: Currently there are 2 854 job offers. Most of them are in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
Reactivity: You can contact the team through Facebook. The team answers quickly.
Special features: Job alerts; the events; the newsletter; the articles (news and career resources); HotBed (a map for an improved job search); the list of hotbeds (and their pages); the contributor’s page (including photos and a short blurb).
Verdict: BioSpace is a user-friendly website for scientific institutions mostly. If you are looking to work in the industry or if you are recruiting for it, you can be sure that BioSpace has relevant offers and a good interface.
